If you are visiting Italy and you have lost your passport then you have to report it to the Italian police. They will open a case and then provide you with a letter and a case number for the Embassy. Then at the Embassy you will need to complete your forms and then add the police report. You will now get a temporary travel document so that you can go home. It you are an expat, then you will need to wait for a passport.
Should you give birth in Italy. You will need to take all your original documents from the Italian government and have them translated and certified. Then you will need to contact the Embassy and register the birth. There is a time limit on reporting a Canadian born abroad. So dont waste time getting the birth registered with a travel document for the child.
