Petty Crime:

Petty crime, like stealing phones and bags, happens a lot in places like Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville. Thieves, sometimes riding motorcycles, grab bags and passports from people, especially in busy areas like the riverfronts and Boeung Keng Kang. They even take things from locked rooms and luggage compartments on buses between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. These crimes can happen anytime, day or night.

What to Do:

Always keep your belongings safe, especially your passport and travel documents.
Don’t leave your stuff unattended.
If you’re robbed, it’s safer to give up your money and valuables without fighting back.

Violent Crime:

Sometimes, violent crimes like stabbings can happen. But reporting these crimes to the police can be tough because some officers aren’t very disciplined.

Organized Crime:

There are reports of organized crime in places like Sihanoukville, involving scams, drugs, and human trafficking. It’s important to be careful and cautious all the time, especially at night, and report any crimes you witness to the local police before leaving Cambodia.

Landmines:

Cambodia has a lot of landmines, especially in places like the Preah Vihear Phnom Kulen temple areas and along the borders with Thailand. Even in rural areas like Banteay Meanchey and Battambang, there can be landmines. So, it’s essential to stay away from these areas for your safety.
