Note that if you are lost the Canadian is not far from the British Embassy in Ankara and you can walk from there if you get lost. You will note that there is now also a Canadian Consulate in Istanbul in Turkey. See what consular assistance can be given to you as a Canadian while you are in the country. Also remember that the Embassy and Consulate will be closed on Turkish as well as Canadian public holidays.

Now if you have lost your travel document or passport. This need to be reported to the local Turkish police for attention. They will provide you with a criminal case number and a note. You now need to make an appointment with the Embassy or Consulate in Istanbul to make an application for a new passport application. When you complete the application for a new passport. You must also give them the case number to show that the lost or stolen passport has been reported. You will then have to wait on a new passport or a temporary travel document.

If you gave birth while in Turkey you will need to take all the birth registration documents from the Turkish government. Have these translated and certified. Then make an appointment with the Embassy or Consulate. Take all the documents translated and originals with you. You will need to take the child with you, the documents as well as your documents for the Canadian passport. Complete the application forms and you will need to wait as they will tell you when to return. This take a while and when completed you would need to apply for a Canadian passport for your child.

Consular Assistance

Now should you be getting married you will need to prove that you are single. The Embassy or Consulate will be able to provide you with a letter of no impediment or letter of freedom to marry. You need to apply for this at their offices. Note the office hours or operating hours of the Embassy and Consulate. See also their street address as well as a map to them. They will tell you when to return for your letter.

Once you have this letter of no impediment you will need to have this translated and certified in Turkey. The local government will then accept the translated and certified letters as proof that you are single. You can now register your marriage in Turkey. When this is complete, you will need tot rnslate the marriage registration and have this certified for a spouse visa to Canada for your new spouse.
