If you need consular assistance while in Kenya or the region then you are best to email or call them first. The security situation in East Africa has not been good for a number of years. So ensure that you only go to the the Canadian High Commission when you know that they will be expecting you. See the map to the High Commissioner below. You will note that they are closed on Canadian as well as on Kenyan public holidays. So don’t forget to check your calendar. If you have lost your passport while in Kenya while on holiday. You will need to report this to the local police. The Kenyan police will then provide you with a case number which the High Commission will need. When you apply for the new passport they also want the case number from you. They will then provide you with a new passport or a temporary travel document so that you can leave the country. If you need a public notary then you will also need to make an appointment to have  your documents notarised. See the High Commissions email address as well as their updated telephone number.

Consular Assistance

Now if you are getting married you will need a letter of no impediment. This will tell the local government that you are single. You need to apply for this letter and then wait as they will tell you when to return. This letter from the High Commission of Canada to Kenya in Nairobi has to be translated and then certified. You can then take the letter and use this to get married in Kenya. This will then be registered and you will then have to have the marriage registration certified and translated.

Now if you gave birth in Kenya then you will need to have all the documents of the child translated and certified. Make an appointment with the High Commission and then register your Canadian child born abroad. You will need to have all the birth registration from the local government and take the child as well as your Canadian passport with you to the High Commissioners office.
