As explained above. When it comes to consular assistance the Canadian Embassy in Ecuador has very limited powers. They can only assist you with contacting your family at home in the event of an accident. They can provide advice where needed to local laws but that is about it. Now if you lost your passport while in Ecuador then they can assist you. You will need to report the lost or stolen passport to the local police.

They will issue you with a case number from the police. You will then complete the needed forms at the Embassy or Consulate with the case number from the police. They will then process your application form for the lost passport. Then issue you with a temporary travel document or passport.

If you gave birth in the country. You can then register a Canadian born abroad. You will need to make an appointment at the Embassy or Consulate. They will require all the original documents that have been given you you. Also the translated and certified versions where needed. They will process the birth registration for you from there. Don’t forget your Canadian passport  to register the birth. You will also need a travel document for the child later when you return to Canada.

If you are getting married the Embassy or Consulate will need to issue you with a letter of no impediment or freedom to marry. This letter states that you are not married and are single. This will need to be translated and certified. Once this is complete all these documents will need to be handed in to register your marriage with the Ecuadorian government. Once you are married then you will need a translated and certified version of the marriage registration. This you will need when you take your spouse back to Canada.
